Fat transfer to breasts

BREAST FAT GRAFTING

General information

1

A necessary condition is the presence of fat donor sites (areas where there is excess fat), usually the thighs, hips, abdomen

2

Type of anesthesia

general (anesthesia)

3

Procedure duration

4-5 h;

4

Stay in clinic

1 day:

5

Recovery period:

  • Return to intellectual work and driving after a few days.
  • Return to physical work after 3 weeks (the breast area requires avoiding excessive arm exertion);
  • Fat donor sites can be exercised a few days after the procedure (e.g., stationary bike);
  • After a week, a recommended cycle of min. 7 massages of the area from which fat was harvested (liposuction site);
  • Breasts require rest – no massaging or excessive touching for 3 weeks;
  • For 1 month, continuous wearing of a compression garment at the fat harvesting site and a supportive sports bra at the fat injection site.
6

Follow-up examinations:

  • after one week, local condition check, suture removal;
  • After 3-12 months, a follow-up is recommended to assess the final result of the procedure;
7

Medications:

Over-the-counter painkillers (patients usually do not complain of pain);

8

Duration of the effect

is very individual; there are no reliable scientific studies determining the percentage of fat that will integrate and provide a lasting effect; the effect of liposuction is permanent;

9

Unavoidable consequences:

  • discomfort/ pain,
  • swelling,
  • bruising,
  • transient skin sensation disturbances in the fat harvesting area, pinpoint scars at the fat harvesting site;
10

Complications

  • hematoma,
  • seroma formation in the wound,
  • skin irregularities at the fat harvesting site,
  • insufficient correction (may require another procedure);
  • overcorrection (extremely rare);
  • palpable lumps under the skin (usually resolve after massage);
  • infection – may require antibiotic treatment;
  • breasts are a place where cancer can develop;
  • similar to any other breast procedure, fat grafting to the breasts can cause the formation of internal scars in the breasts, which may potentially complicate breast diagnostics in imaging studies;
  • no correlation has been found between fat grafting and cancer risk.
  • Dissatisfaction with the procedure's outcome (subjective feeling).
