Complications

Complications are rare but can occur and are almost always reversible, which determines the safety of the procedure: infection (extremely rare), inflammatory reaction around the administered preparation (excessive body reaction to a foreign body, so-called granuloma – very rare), insufficient correction (requires an additional procedure), overcorrection (one can wait for the preparation to be absorbed spontaneously or dissolve the preparation with hyaluronidase); palpable thickening at the injection site (minor irregularities can almost always be felt with the tongue, but are not visible); allergic reactions (extremely rare; the procedure does not require a prior allergy test); isolated cases of blindness after such procedures have been reported (isolated cases on a global scale and over decades); patient dissatisfaction with the outcome of the procedure; the highest diligence in performing the procedure can be guaranteed, but patient satisfaction with the outcome of the procedure cannot be guaranteed.
